It may seem like we’ve made it through the worst of the winter months, but there’s still a few months left of these colder temperatures. For many, this time of year may mean avoiding their conservatories as much as possible as they’re just too uncomfortable to spend time in. However, we’ve got some simple top tips to bump up the temperature and retain the warmth inside yours.
Flooring
Good flooring, although not essential to retain heat, can definitely have an impact on the room’s temperature as there’s nothing worse than being cold underfoot. Carpets aren’t really a practical long-term flooring option for a conservatory however that doesn’t mean that during the winter months you can’t add a stylish new rug to the floor to create both a cosier look for the space but also a warmer feel for walking on.
Reduce draughts
It may seem obvious, but draughts are going to let the outside temperature in, so it’s key to make sure all your windows and doors are draught proof. If your conservatory is on the older side, it may be time to think on an upgrade rather than letting the space go to waste. We also offer an alternative to a traditional conservatory called a Livin Room.
A Livin Room is the best of both worlds, combining the light and sky of a conservatory with the walls and ceiling of an extension. A Livin Room is truly multi-functional, creating a pleasant and relaxing space for meditation or it can be a full-on family room. Livin Room offer more, lots more than either a conservatory or an extension. View a selection of our previous installations here.
Think about blinds
Although blinds are added to conservatories for aesthetic purposes, they actually have a very practical use too, as they have a great ability to retain heat. They will help to minimise draughts (if you have them) and they can be opened on sunnier winter days to make the most of the available heat and closed when you have your radiators on to help you retain the heat from escaping through the glazing.
Replace Your Conservatory Roof
This method may be your last resort but replacing an old conservatory roof could be the solution. High quality conservatory roofs are made from thermally efficient materials and act as a barrier by keeping heat out in summer and trapping it inside during winter. Not only will replacing the roof improve the inside temperature, you’re also likely to see your energy bills decrease too!
