The approaching change in season is a great excuse for an interior revamp. The winter can be dark and gloomy which is why it’s especially important to switch this up and make your home brighter. To help you do just this, we’ve gathered some of our best tips below.
Use light coloured paints
Painting your walls and ceilings with light colours can make a room feel brighter and more spacious. Dulux sell a paint called ‘Light + Space’ which does exactly that! Its formula works with light-reflective particles to reflect up to twice as much light back into your room in comparison to conventional emulsion paints.
Add accent colours
Instead of choosing all bright, illuminous colours for your room, opt for neutral colours as mentioned above but add a pop of brightness through your interior. Cushions are a great and simple way of doing this as you can add a bold injection of colour without having to redecorate. You could also display fresh flowers as not only does this add a burst of colour, but it also fills the room with a fresh, spring scent.
Swap dark curtains for light wicker or bamboo blinds
Having dark, blackout curtains can certainly make the interior of your home feel very gloomy as no natural light is let in. We recommend swapping these for light wicker or bamboo blinds as these allow a little bit more daylight to sneak in whilst still retaining your privacy through your window.
Keep your windows clean
Dirty windows actually cut out a large amount of natural light and as a result, make your room look dull. Combat this by keeping your windows squeaky clean as often as you can. This rule can also be applied to conservatories as having a dirty roof will affect the light let in. Be sure to clean all glass to make a room appear larger and brighter.
Hang mirrors near to windows
Hanging mirrors near to windows or anywhere else letting in large amounts of natural light, like in a conservatory, can also help to enhance the size of a room. The mirror will reflect the view from outside as well as the sunlight and automatically brighten the interior of your home.
